I am soooo behind on this, but here are some pics anyway...

Day 32: Little Norway & Lap Cat

The next town south of us, where I went to High School and worked my very first job, is Poulsbo, a.k.a. "Little Norway". It's always striven to be ultra picturesque, and it's even more aggressively so at Christmas.

On the home front, Beany is in full-on Winter mode, which means she's ready to jump in a lap any time one of us sits down.

Here she is telling Gordon, "No, I'm fine, you don't have to get up. I can sit here all day!"

Day 31: Christmas begins

I know I'm not very good at keeping this up to date. So I'll do a chunk of shots at once. Dad is busy scanning old slides. Images I've not seen for many, many years. So many memories that I've locked away. Some are easily opened, some are not. Most of these shots elicit an "I remember that!", but some I just look at and think, "Who are those people? Where were we?"

Here's a shot that just says "My childhood Christmas" to me. Plaid dress made by Grandma: check. Mary Janes: check. Too much sugar happy kid face: check. Mountain of prezzies: check. Good old-fashioned tinsel that gets into everything and wraps around the drum of the vacuum cleaner: check. This is my Christmas poster child. Oh, it's me, btw.

Later, I would turn into this:

Angst-ridden, overly introspective teenager, just graduated from High School. Looking for adventure in the wide world, about to be ground under the heel of a world full of hormonal young men, stupid decisions, grownups with no vision, and Status-quo worshipping sheeple.

Still, the Oregon Coast is a great place to just sit and relax before hitting the trenches...wearing one of the few pairs of jeans I've ever owned, I think.

Day 30: the sun returns

Still very windy, but NOT RAINING! Whew! The cats are all toasting in the sun...in the house.

Here's Gimli soaking up rays on the kitchen table. Notice how he thoughtfully positioned himself on the place mat and not on the lace tablecloth. What a good little boy he is...sometimes!

And in other news...

Day 28: wayback time

Sorry for the delay. Thanksgiving and all that. Anyhoo... my dad just picked up a fancy new printer/scanner that scans film and slides, too. He and mom have about 6 kajillion slides from the 50s forward, and he's starting to scan them. I send them to my computer and Photoshop them for him, and this is the kind of thing we're getting:

My sister, my mom, and me on a cable car in San Francisco some time in the late sixties. I think this was the trip where my brother, the infant, was left with grandma while we capered around California. This was back when I viewed CA as a place to visit, not live. Little did I know, and thankfully did I escape. This was also back in the day when you could hang on the outside of the car when it was underway: fun! (I'm sure my mom hated it).

Here we are with the bro (who now towers over me), a few years later, at our cool brick house in Vancouver, WA. Ah, the 70s: awful washed-out colors, polyester, and limp hair. Well, I was born with limp hair, so I fit right in. Dig the plaid pants on the sister unit. Bleh. Her kids are going to love these pics...
